Quilt Squares (1 - 5)

Here we are with the start of our squares for Molly's quilt. I decided to blog our squares as we receive them after seeing a friend from Molly's travel group do the same with the squares for her son's quilt. Hope you enjoy seeing each square as it arrives and I will post the finished product when we get there. Thanks to all who sent us squares - we're off to a great start!!

Bai Jai Bei Quilt

To welcome and celebrate a new life, there is a tradition in China to make a "Bai Jai Bei" or 100 Wishes Quilt. It is a custom to invite friends and family to contribute a patch of cloth with a wish for the new child. Part of the cloth goes into the quilt, and the other part will go into a scrapbook with the wishes made for Molly. The quilt contains the prayers and good wishes from all the families and friends who contributed a piece of fabric. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation.

We invite you to send wishes to Molly for her life ahead. We ask that you contribute a 10 inch square of fabric and a wish or prayer on a notecard. The fabric may come from an old shirt or clothing that was special to you, or can be new. In working to keep her culture and background very alive in her life and in her home, we feel that she will enjoy this special keepsake along with the wishes of her family and friends in her life.

Thank you for participating and contributing to our quilt project. I know Molly will treasure each wish and can't wait to see the squares arrive!
